INTRODUCTION
Janumet 50 mg/500 mg Tablet is a combination of two medicines that control high blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This helps prevent serious complications of diabetes, such as kidney damage and blindness, and may reduce your chance of having a heart attack or stroke.
Janumet 50 mg/500 mg Tablet can be taken alone or with other diabetes medications. All diabetes medicines work best when used along with a healthy diet and regular exercise. The dose you are given will depend on your condition, blood sugar levels, and what other medicines you are taking. Taking it with meals helps reduce the chances of developing an upset stomach and should be taken at the same time each day for best results.
The most common side effect of this tablet is hypoglycemia (low blood glucose levels), which is characterised by dizziness, sweating, palpitations, hunger pangs, a dry mouth and skin, etc. So, to avoid hypoglycemia, you should not miss meals and also carry some form of sugar with you. Other side effects include taste changes, nausea, diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, and upper respiratory symptoms.
Janumet 50 mg/500 mg Tablet should not be stopped, even if you feel better, without consulting your doctor, as your sugar level keeps changing. If you stop taking tablet abruptly, it may increase your sugar levels, which could further increase the risk of eyesight loss (retinopathy), kidney damage (nephropathy), and nerve damage (neuropathy). Do not take it if you have type 1 diabetes or severe kidney or liver disease. Please inform your doctor if you have any type of heart disease, are or plan to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding.
